Xavier

My name is Xavier Dauge and I am originally from Belgium. Both of my grandfathers and my father were sailors and  I grew up in a family of sailors who were sailing large boats and wining competitions all the time, so I have always had a dream of having my own boat.

When I was younger, I studied photography and I worked as a photographer representative for more than 10 years, my work involved photography for different events as model shooting, weddings etc. When I was at school during the holiday brake I learned sailing and windsurfing. At 14 I started being an instructor for windsurfing and Hobie Cats. I did this from 14 to when I was 20 so I have taught sailing for 6 years. I did lots of sailing and competitive sailing with Hobie Cats, windsurfing, and sailboats large and small. All of my training and instruction was off the Belgium coast.

After being 10 years in the photography field I decided to do some traveling. I went to Panama and found Panama very attractive for the kinds of businesses and water sports that I wanted to be involved in so I decided to come and live in Panama. I set up a successful hostel in Panama City, but wanted to have a facility more easily involved in hiking and watersports so I set up another hostel in Coronado 2 blocks from the water. Kiters were attracted to the site and I began to learn the sport myself. As time went by I decided to teach kiteboarding and went to Cabarete Dominic Republic to obtain an instructor training. I earned the instructor IKO level 2 rating.

Having my kitesurfing school for 2 years in Panama and being limited to 6 months per year due to the wind season, I researched alternatives to obtain a longer season. In 2009 I decided to move my school to a sailing boat, so that I can go around the Caribbean and follow the wind and offer kitesurfing for people who know how to kite and also to teach kitesurfing in these beautiful islands; thus the beginning of KiteboardingParadise.com.
