Kiteboarding is a relatively new sport that involves a large kite that provides pulling power sometimes referred to as a traction kite, a board that is used to ride along the surface of the water, and a harness to stay connected to the kite.

It is what is called an extreme sport, because the activity can be perceived as having a high level of inherent danger. And it can be very dangerous if you have not had any training. Good News: We have the latest equipment and certified instructors to make your kiting experience fun.

There are a number of crossover or similar sports. Wakeboarding, surfing, windsurfing, sailing all have overlapping characteristics. If you have had any experience in any of these sports you will have a quicker transition to kiting. Regardless, the learning curve is usually quite quick with good instruction. Most people are up on a board within 3 teaching sessions.

There are number of characteristics of kiteboarding and ways you can enjoy the sport. Many kiters are surfers that wanted a way to surf more and paddle less and wave surfing is one common kiting activity.  Much of the sport was popularized by surfers, thus the term "kitesurfing", though "kiteboarding" and "kitesurfing" are generally used interchangeably today. Probably the most popular and publicized activity is freestyle. Freestyle is when you typically do jumps of some kind with a trick, like a flip or a spin. There is a professional circuit and competitions for freestyle. Some prefer course racing competitions and there is a circuit for that as well.

Strong steady winds, shallow water, and a good section of beach to launch and land your kite are the best conditions for learning to kite and are commonly desired by most kiters. This is the environment we search for, though we prefer to have this environment in combination with an area with good surf break so that those that like the surfing aspect have that option.
