Ah yes, tipping.

Well, as a general industry standard, the tipping rate is from 5% to 15% of the cost of the charter. This rate normally covers all crew, i.e. the one tip based on the cost of the charter is divided amongst the crew; you can divide it yourself or give it to the captain with instructions that the tip be divided amongst the crew. So if your cost is $2000, you could give a 10% tip of $200 to cover all the crew. Tipping is generally done at the end of the trip.

We want you to know that tipping is definitely your choice. Tipping is your option and while we don’t require tips, we know the crew appreciates your indication that they did a good job.

Here are some other links and quotes regarding tipping. Click on the quote to see the article:

… the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association suggested that 5 to 15 percent is a customary gratuity scale.

The range is considered normal, suitable, and appropriate, and it does not in any way preclude a very generous gesture.

On a crewed yacht charter tipping is customary. The crew worked long, hard hours to make your holiday a success. If you feel the service has been brilliant, a gratuity equal to 10% of the charter fee is acceptable. If the crew has been exceptional, a higher discretionary figure may be warranted. A tip is generally distributed equally amongst the crew, by the captain.

How much should I tip the yacht's crew?

It is customary to tip the crew 10-15% of the charter fee for a job well done. In Europe tipping is not as common so 5-10% of the charter fee is more common.

The amount is always at your discretion. You will invariably find that the crews do work hard for you and appreciate these gratuities
